Worship, Forgiveness & Love

Luke 7:36-50

I. “Religious” people feel falsely acceptable to God.

            •          Blind

            •          Judgmental

            •          Feel superior

II. Worship is fueled & becomes spontaneous when we experience God’s Grace, Love  &              Forgiveness

“He forgives all my sins; He touches my afflictions with healing; He snatches me back from the gaping jaws of hell; He covers me with concern and love; He fulfills my deepest desires and gives me meaning for life and purpose for living.”             Paraphrased  Psalm 103:3-5

Worship is meant to be an encounter, an exciting meeting where love is given & received often in an unscripted manner.                                                          Matt Redman

Questions to consider:

1.         How do you feel when you get thanked for something?

2.         Do you find it easy to express thankfulness to others?

3.         Would you consider yourself a hospitable person? Do you have people to your house fairly regularly to minister to them, feed them have fun with them? Why or why not?

4.         This act of this woman washing Jesus’ feet was “shocking” in her day. What do you find   “shocking” or disturbing in your generation?

5.         In verse 36, who invited Jesus to eat with him?

6.         Describe what the woman did in verses 36-37 and what you might have thought or felt if you were there.

7.         What did the Pharisee say that revealed his wicked & unloving heart? (39)

8.         What is the main point to Jesus’ story in 41-42?

9.         What did Jesus want Simon to know about his hospitality and his heart? (44-46)

10.       What did Jesus want to reassure the woman about during this encounter?  (47-48)

11.       What question did this cause the guests to ask? (49)

12.       What is the result of true salvation? (50)

13.       Do you ever find yourself acting like Simon? When?

14.       Have you ever praised or worshipped God in a way that people would think that you were obsessed with Jesus? Why or why not?

15.       How do “feel” around people who have “questionable” lifestyles likes homosexuals, prostitutes, “druggies” etc.?

16.       Jesus was known as a friend of sinners. What does it take to be known as a friend of  sinners?
