Monthly Reading - Mark 11
A new month brings a new set of chapters to read, study, and review. This month is Mark 11-16. I want to ...
u
First, we are followers of Christ, which distinguishes us from other world religions and cults. Therefore, we adhere to salvation coming to us in Christ alone, through grace alone, by faith alone.
Second, we are Evangelicals, therefore we teach:
The Bible to be the inspired, only infallible, authoritative Word of God
There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substituting and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to earth in power and glory. We are not embarrassed by the blood of Jesus Christ shed on Calvary. We believe Jesus died as a substitute for the sins of His people whom He loves. Jesus Christ is the only hope of salvation.
Third, we are people of God’s eternal kingdom, therefore:
We want to see culture transformed and believe the gospel of Christ is fitting for every time, place, and people.
We seek to partner with like-minded followers of Christ from various churches, denominations and organizations in order to see the Kingdom of God expanded.
We teach radical giving and selfless living. We know that God will honor all believers who look after the poor, the imprisoned, and the needy.
We purposely are spending less on ourselves at MCC and giving more to spread the gospel and minister to the poor, knowing that bigger buildings, budgets and crowds are not necessarily pleasing to God. What pleases Him is caring about His name and people more than brick and mortar.
Fourth, we are people of God’s total grace, therefore we teach:
That our first parents (Adam and Eve) sinned against God and that everyone since is a sinner by nature and choice. All of our being is stained by sin (e.g. reasoning, desires, will and emotions). We cannot and do not desire to come to God because of our sin.
That God in His extraordinary love and mercy, for His good pleasure alone, has chosen to draw His people to Himself for salvation. This salvation was decided by God, not mankind, in eternity past.
That the salvation of His people was secured by the sinless life and substitutionary atoning death of Jesus Christ in place of His people for their sins
That the salvation of His people is by grace alone, and this grace is given through the preaching and hearing of the gospel. The true salvation of God’s people shines through in their ongoing repentance of sin and faith in Jesus Christ that leads to a life of good works.
That the gospel should be passionately and urgently proclaimed to all people so that, by the regenerating power of God's Spirit, those who believe will be saved through the hearing of God's Word.
That true believers who are regenerated by God's Spirit will be kept by Him throughout their lives, as evidenced by personal transformation that includes an ever-growing love of God the Father, adoration of the Son and empowerment by God the Spirit, love of brothers and sisters in the church, and love of lost neighbors in the world.
That worship of God is the purpose for which people were created, and that lasting joy is only to be found by delighting in God through all of life, including hardship and death.
