What Do Kingdom People Look Like?

Luke 8:1-3

The Kingdom of God is the sovereign & complete rule of God over all things. The Kingdom is now being visibly manifested in everyday life through God’s born again & transformed people, called the church. The full consummation of the Kingdom will come when God returns to earth to judge all people and rule over the earth. Believers now live in the middle of the “already” and the “not yet” of the Kingdom.

Luke 1:26-33

Luke 4:42-44

Luke 6:20

Luke 7:28

Luke 8:9-10

Luke 9:1-2, 57-62

John 3:1-8

I. We enter the Kingdom of God by being born again from above.

Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.                                                               Matthew 19:28 (NASB)

He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit     Titus 3:5 (NASB)

II. After being transformed, God plants a driving desire in us to make Him & His Kingdom the priority of our lives, which causes us to arrange our lives & resources around Him and His priorities.

Matthew 6:24-34

Questions to consider:

  1. What do you think of when you hear the term “Kingdom of God”?
  2. How might a person know if he/she is more concerned about God’s Kingdom than his/her own kingdom?
  3. Read the paragraph about the Kingdom of God and discuss it with someone what stands out to you and what you see in this paragraph that hits home with you.
  4. Read the Luke passages again and discuss what each one reveals about God’s Kingdom?
  5. How would a person know he or she is for sure born again and growing in Christ? See some marks of a born again person in these passages - 1 John 4:13, Romans 14:17, John 8:31-32, Psalm 1:2. 37:4, 40:8, Isaiah 58:2 (last line), 1 Timothy 3:7 & 2 Timothy 3:12
  6. Do you see yourself in these Scriptures? Anything stand out to you that you would like to grow in this year?
  7. How do you regularly go about making decisions and setting priorities? What might help you in making God’s Kingdom more of a priority?
  8. Read point #2 from Sunday’s message. Talk over with the group the changes you have seen in your life of loving His Kingdom more than your kingdom.
  9. Pray for one another to make God and His Kingdom
