Value of the Kingdom of God
Matthew 13:44-46

I. What the parables say

II.What the parables mean

     1. The value of God’s reign in your life through Christ is greater than
         everything you have.
     2. The joyful cost of God’s reign in your life through Christ is everything
         you have.

Matthew 19:21-22 - Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”  When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Luke 9:57-58 - As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”  And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Luke 9:59-60 - To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”  And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:61-62 - Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.”  Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

III. How the parables apply
     1. Reorientation of our ambitions
     2. Reorientation of our schedules
     3. Reorientation of our possessions
     4. Reorientation of our source of joy
