Chapter 6 - Taking God at His Word by Kevin DeYoung

I. His story is what we need to hear.

     Rescue - Genesis 3:21, Romans 10:9

     Fall - Genesis 3:6-7, Romans 3:23

     Creation - Genesis 1:26-31, Romans 1:20

     Restoration - Genesis 12:1-3, Romans 8:18-19

Revelation 21:5 – “He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new…’ ”

II.  His story must highlight Christ, the cross, and the resurrection.

III. His story is made effective by His power, not clever words or
      techniques.

IV. His people will treasure His story.

V. His Spirit working in our everyday lives writes His story in
    today’s world.

2 Corinthians 3:2-3

Faith Sheet

Main Themes
~ General revelation, what we can learn from creation and our conscience, is not enough to sufficiently know God and live for His glory. We need His written word, the Bible, to know Him, and to make Him known.

~ God’s word is not only necessary for our transformation through Jesus Christ, but also for daily, real world godliness.

#1- Reviewing This Past Sunday
Maturing in Christ: God’s Word is Necessary
1 Corinthians 2:1-16

1. Read 1 Corinthians 2:1-16.
2. Share the basics of God’s story with someone and see how
much you are able to communicate. Get feedback on how to
    improve in communicating His story.
3. Why must we focus on Christ, His cross and His resurrection in
    sharing God’s story? (Acts 4:12, 1 Corinthians 15:17, 54-55, 1
    Timothy 2:5, and Hebrews 7:25)
4. Pray for someone who has not yet entered into God’s kingdom.

# 2- Preparing for Next Sunday
Maturing in Christ: God’s Word is Unbreakable
John 10:22-42

Read Chapter 7 - Taking God At His Word by Kevin DeYoung

1. Read John 10:22-44.
2. What gives you the greatest assurance that you belong to
    Jesus?
3. Is it inconsistent to say you are trusting in Christ as Savior and
His Lordship for your life, but you are not sure that all of
Scripture is absolutely true? In what way does John 14:6 apply
    to your answer?
4. Pray with thankfulness that we have “all of His Word” to guide
    us through our days.
