Notes:

I.  The heart of Jesus and purpose of His mission:  Heal and Save Sinners

II. Truths concerning our outreach to those in sin:

A.  Jesus came to heal and save sinners, not condemn them.

John 3:17 - For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

B.  Jesus came to heal and save sinners, not approve of them.

1.  God’s wrath is stored up for those who persist in sin.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11             Page#1144

John 12:47-49                     Page #1076

John 3:36                                     Page #1061

2.  God’s righteous standards are high for those saved by grace.

      1 Peter 1:14-19                             Page #1211

3.  While Jesus spent time with sinners, He wasn’t influenced by them.

C.  Jesus came to heal and save sinners, so He built relationships with them, sought them out and spent time with them where they were.

Luke 19:10   the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost

III.  Principles to remember when implementing this truth:

1.  Be willing to take a risk.

2.  Be willing to go outside your comfort zone.

3.  Cover your outreach in prayer.

4.  Take a friend.

Monday, 4-15-13 - Reflecting on Yesterday

1. Discuss Sunday’s message with someone.

2. Jesus came to heal and save sinners. Has this been your experience?

3. Discuss with your children or a friend the concepts of mankind’s total depravity and our total reliance on the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf.

4. Spend some time today praying for those whom you know in our community who would be considered “sinners.”

Tuesday, 4-16-13 - Reflecting on this Past Sunday

1. Jesus builds relationships with “sinners” because He wants to heal and save them. The Pharisees shunned “sinners” because they condemned them. Think about your relationship with and specific encounters you have had lately with those who would be considered “sinners”. Does it reflect the heart of Christ or the Pharisees?

2. Have you ever intentionally built a relationship with someone you would consider to be a “sinner” so you can show love and introduce them to Christ? Pray about how and with whom you can build genuine relationships.

3. Discuss with your children or a friend the importance of surrounding yourselves with Christian community, including regular church attendance, Bible studies, small groups, and having your core group of friends be other Christians.

4. Read Luke 10:2. Pray earnestly today that God would send you and others into His harvest.

Wednesday, 4-17-13 - Reflecting on this Past Sunday

1. Read John 3:17 and Luke 19:10.  Because Jesus came to heal and save “sinners”, He sought them out and spent time building relationships with them where they were. Read Acts 1:8.  How can you allow Christ to use you in buildin relationships with and meeting with “sinners” where they are?

2. Pray earnestly that God would send you and others into His harvest.

Thursday, 4-18-13 - Preparing for this Upcoming Sunday

1. Read Luke 18:9-14. (A Sinner’s Prayer)

2. What bothers us about prideful people? Your own pride?

3. To whom did Jesus tell the parable?

4. Why was the Pharisee sure of his own righteousness?

5. What was the tax collector sure of concerning himself and God before he met the Lord? After he trusted in the Lord?

6. Pray for a desire to walk in confident humility with God and others.

Friday, 4-19-13 – Preparing Ourselves for this Sunday

1. Read Luke 18:9-14.

2. Who would be the Pharisees of our time? Who would be the tax collectors?

3. Read and pray over verse 14. Pray for people you know using this Scripture.

Saturday, 4-20-13 – Preparing for Tomorrow

1. Read Luke 18:9-14.

2. Notice how many times the Pharisee uses the word “I”.
