God’s Eternal, Complete, and Sufficient Love for His People  
Song of Solomon 1:1-7

Father/child

Ephesians 1:5 - “He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will…”    

Potter/clay

Isaiah 64:8 – “…We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hand.”

Shepherd/sheep

Isaiah 40:11 – “Like a shepherd He will tend His flock…He will gather the lambs and carry them in His presence; He will gently lead His lambs.”

Creator/creation

Isaiah 43:1 - “But now, thus says the LORD, I am your Creator…”

Redeemer/redeemed

Isaiah 43:1 - “…He who formed you says… ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!’”

Master/slave

Luke 17:10 - “So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.'"

Vine/branch

John 15:5 - Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”

4-5 – “... you will … go forth to the dances… you will plant vineyards…. And will enjoy them.”

Hosea 2:16-20 - “… I will allure her, bring her into the wilderness and speak kindly to her…. and she will sing again... I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth… I will also make a covenant for them… I will make them lie down in safety. I will betroth you to Me forever…in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness and in compassion, And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness….”

John 14:1-3 - Jesus said, “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places… I go to prepare a place for you. Since I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

Song of Solomon 1:1-7

     1. His Lips – His specific words to us from His word.

     2. His Lotion – His presence.

     3. His Love – His eternal and sufficient love for His people that brings
         approval and transformation.

Song of Solomon 2:4 and 4:9-11

     4. His Life – His character, nature and attributes that reveal what He is
         really like.

1. Read Song of Solomon 1:1-7 and discuss the message with someone.
2. What word picture or pictures of God’s relationship with His people are
    most meaningful to you right now and why?
3. In what ways recently have your relationships been impacted the more
    you understand how God loves you, graces you, and views you?
4. Pray Ephesians 1:18-20 for yourself and for others.

Family - A Witness to the World
Ephesians 5:8-21

1. READ- Read Ephesians 5: 8-21 several times and ask the Lord to reveal
    Himself and His truth to you. (Psalm105:4)
2. EXAMINE- Spend some time marking up your Bible. Ask questions like:
    What is the meaning of the passage, the main thoughts or points?
3. APPLY- Apply the text to your own life. Ask these type of questions:
     ~What does this text tell me about God?
     ~What does this text tell me about myself?
     ~How will I live differently because of what I just read? 
     ~Is there a command for me to obey, a warning to observe, a sin I must
       repent of, or something that leads me to give thanks?

4. PRAY- Pray through the passage and your application. Ask God to lead
    you to love Him, love others and to be intentional about making disciples
    by the power of the Holy Spirit.
