Authority of Jesus in Physical Healing (Part 2)

Luke 4:31-39, James 13-20

1 Corinthians 6:12-20  Page #1144

We are to:

1. Take care of our bodies

2 Corinthians 12:7-10  Page # 1163

2. Pray for healing

3. We are to seek medical assistance

No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.                   1 Timothy 5:23

4. Own up to any unrepentant sin

James 5:13       Page # 1210

5.  Ask to be prayed over by the Elders

  1. Must be a follower of Christ
  2. Must be sick or without strength
  3. Ask the elders (plural) to pray
  4. Trust the Lord with the results

Questions for this week:

I.  For Starters:

  1. Do you think there is more cancer, ADDH etc today, or are we better at recognizing these types of issues?
  2. Have you come to the place where you could truly pray for God to not heal you if it would bring Him more glory? Why or why not?
  3. If someone you loved asked you to pray for their death because of suffering, would you? Why or why not?

Overview of Scripture

  1. Read James 5:13-20
  2. What is a person to do when in trouble and why?  (13)
  3. What are the “cheerful” to do and why? (13)
  4. What are the believers who are sick to do and why? (14)
  5. What is God’s promise to those who are sick?  (15)
  6. What are the elders of the church to do for the sick and why? (14-15)
  7. Why are we to confess our sins to one another? (16)
  8. What are we to learn form Elijah’s example? (17-18)
  9. What is our responsibility (all believers) with other believers or professing believers who have wandered away from the truth?  (19)
  10. What are the results of rescuing a person from death? (20)
  11.  What keeps us from confessing sins and praying for each other on a regular basis?
  12.  How have other believers assisted you when you were drifting in your walk with Christ?
  13.  You don’t have to answer this out loud, but is there anyone you know who is straying away from the truth and what might you do this week about it?

III. Growing Deeper

  1. Review Sunday’s message with someone.
  2. Read 2 Kings 5:1-15. What truths do you see in this passage concerning healing and what does this story say about how God sometimes does His mysterious works?
  3. What do you need healing of that you could share with your group? Would you be willing for them to pray for you or lay hands on you and pray over you?
