Summary:

Pastor Todd continues with the the Gospel Project Series. This week - "The Promised Land: A Courageous Warrior of God"

Detail:

Judges 6:1-18

I. Our courage comes from our identity in God. 6:1-12

II. Our courage comes from God who is sending us. 6:14

III. Our courage comes from God being with us. 6:15-16

IV. Our courage comes from God’s patience with us. 6:36-40

V. Our courage comes from learning how God uses our weakness, not our strength. (7:2-23, 8: 1-35)

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - God has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” …therefore, I will boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me… for when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 8:9 - “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.”

Faith Sheet

1. What’s the difference between these prayers: “God, please deliver me from this trial” and “God, don’t let me out of this trial until I have grown from it”?

2. What aspects of obedience to God’s mission make you feel inadequate, or “not up to the task”? Where do you need courage?

3. What would have been the result if God continued blessing His people even while they still were pursuing idols?

4. The mind-set of our world is that great things are accomplished by strong people. How does Gideon’s story give you courage in your weakness?

5. Discuss your identity in Christ and pray through these verses with each other. (Matt 5:13-14, John 1:12, 15:15-16, Romans 6:5, 22, 8:17, 1 Cor. 6:19, 2 Cor. 5:17, Eph. 1:1, 2:10, 4:24, Phil. 3:20, Col. 2:9-10, 3:12, 1 Peter 2:9-10 & 1 John 5:18)
