Encouraging Words or Deadly Lies

Posted on

A pastor said recently, “It starts in your mind. If you don’t think you can be successful, you won’t. Don’t limit yourself with your thinking.”

I had just finished watching a documentary of several million people stuck in the dessert after being chased out Syria. Over half of them are children. Disease, lack of clean water, good food and terrible living conditions are taking a toll on many of the people. I thought to myself; “Could that kind of gospel be preached in Syria”?

“The Syrian crisis has become the biggest humanitarian emergency of our era, yet the world is failing to meet the needs of refugees and the countries hosting them,” said High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.

What many of Americans accept as positive news, pleasant encouragement and nice uplifting words from the pulpits often simply will not fly in other areas of the world or match up with Jesus’ teaching.

What is true Godly encouragement? It is an expression of word or deed that motivates another person toward increased Christ-likeness.

Sunday, Lord willing, we will look at the power of Godly friendships and encouraging words in moving others forward in Christ. We will also be ordaining Brad Wingler and celebrating what God has done in his life.

Pray for our time Sunday. Pray also for the refuges that have been forced to flee Syria. Pray that Syrians hear and respond to the true Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as have their physical needs met.

Hope to see you Sunday.
