2 Samuel 7:8-26

 Luke 12:32 - “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

I. God promises His people a forever rest. (2 Samuel 7:8-11a)

Genesis 12:1-2 - “Go to the land I will show you…And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing.”

Genesis 15:18 – “On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, ‘To your descendants I have given this land…’ ”


Genesis 12:3 - “And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

II. God promises to build a forever house. (2 Samuel 7:11b-17)

Genesis 17:6 - …I will make nations of you, and kings will come forth from you

Genesis 22:17-18 - “I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore…In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.”

Isaiah 53:5 - He will be bruised for our iniquity, and by His stripes, we are healed.

John 1:14 - “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us… the glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

2 Samuel 7:18-26    

 Luke 1:32-33 - “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever and His kingdom will have no end.” 

Ways we Rest in Christ Now:

1. Rest in Christ and His work.

Hebrews 4:9-10 - “There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His…” 

Rest in God’s timing.     

Revelation 6:10-11 - “…(the martyrs) were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants…who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed.”

Rest from the fear of being rejected.

Romans 8:1 - “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Faith Sheet for Friends and Family This Week

 1. When have you felt tired in your walk of faith? What situations lead you to feeling burned out or exhausted?

2. How does our inability to rest in Christ hinder our witness?

3. Discuss how God’s faithfulness impacts our lives. Read 1 Corinthians 1:4-9, 2 Timothy 2:8-13, 1 Peter 4:12-19.

4. Look up these scriptures about the Son of David. (Isaiah 11:1-3, 10; Jeremiah 23:5-6, Hosea 3:5; Matthew 22:41-45; Luke 1:67-75; Acts 2:29-36; and Revelation 5:1-10.)

5. Discuss “resting” in Christ and what that means for our daily lives. Pray God’s truth.
