Welcome

It’s Time for a Change

We have a new President-Elect, and he has made plenty of promises… promises to get the country out of economic depression, promises to remove us from the war in Iraq, promises, promises, promises.  These promises got him elected, and the whole country will now watch and wait to see just how many of his promises he keeps.  All eyes are on him—Save the country! Save the economy! Save the troops!

Now think about President George W. Bush.  Being the man in charge is not always a guaranteed position of respect.  After September 11th, he had an enormous approval rating, only to see that rating plummet to an all-time embarrassing low.  All eyes had been on him for 8 years—Go into Iraq!  Get Saddam!  Protect the U.S.!  And now?  Nobody’s really looking at President Bush for help anymore; they’ve moved on to the next guy, because he promises change.

And then there’s God.  He never changes.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

"For I, the LORD, do not change…”                                    (Malachi 3:6)

God, the changeless One in charge, has also made plenty of promises—promises that He has kept for eternity.

"My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips”.
                                                                                                            (Psalm 89:34 NASB)

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”
                                                                                                            (2 Cor 1:20 NIV)

“…you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the    good words which the LORD your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have   been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed.”                (Joshua 23:14NASB)

“This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.”
                                                                                                            (I John 2:25NASB)

We know from the above passages and from so many others in the Bible that God always keeps His promises, which is something that we cannot say about anyone else we know, whether they are politicians, our parents, our children, co-workers, or anyone else for that matter.  We are imperfect, God is perfect.  We live in an imperfect world, and our future president is now faced with the task of leading our nation out of one of the worst times in its economic history.  The Great Depression of the 1920’s was aptly named.  When there are few jobs, little money, and perilous financial insecurity, depression (the mental kind) is also prevalent.  And so here we are again, facing Depression…and depression.  While the President-Elect might have some answers for the current economic depression, the real Leader offers hope and promises for the more personal kind of depression.

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your     God.   I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with        My righteous right hand.”                                                      (Isaiah 41:10 NASB)

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,      nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in          Christ Jesus our Lord.”                                                          (Romans 8:38-39)
Whether or not you agree with the leader that has been chosen, it is our duty as God’s people to respect and pray for him. Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God (Romans 13:1).   He probably will not be a perfect president.  But, he won’t get anywhere without our prayers.
